THE 57 RACE RECAP

The recent running of THE 57, hosted by SOUTHERN MOUNTAIN GEAR(SMG), transformed the historic streets of Hagåtña into a high-stakes playground for Guam’s fitness community. Held on February 15, 2026, this wasn't your typical 5K; it was a 57-minute urban navigation challenge that prioritized strategy and speed in equal measure.

The Format: Race Against the Clock

As the sun began to dip, racers gathered at Carabao Brewery: The Pit Stop, which served as both the starting line and the mission control for the evening. The rules were simple yet stressful: participants had exactly 57 minutes to navigate Hagåtña, hitting as many checkpoints as possible to accumulate points. Arriving back even a second late meant facing defeat, turning the final sprint into a desperate dash against the clock.

The Route: Navigating Hagåtña’s Heart

Equipped with a map and a sense of adventure, runners and teams of two dodged through the capital’s landmarks. The "urban run" format pushed participants to weave through several iconic sites, including:

• Plaza de España: Where racers had to navigate historic stone arches and modern architecture.
• Latte Stone Park: A demanding stop requiring quick footwork near the ancient megaliths.
• Skinner Plaza: High-traffic points that tested navigation skills during the busy evening hour.
• Sirena Park: The seaside stretch where the mermaid still beckons travellers.

A Community Effort: Sponsors and Surprises

The event’s high energy was fueled by a dedicated roster of local partners. Carabao Brewing anchored the event, hosting the post-race celebration where every finisher earned a well-deserved beverage. Other key sponsors provided "in-race surprises" and heavy-hitting prizes, including:
